Objective of the game

Fortnite is a battle royale shooter game, mainly playable online. It is a game mode in which 100 players participate and must eliminate each other. The winner of the game is the last player or team alive. To achieve this, equipment is scattered across the map to help players survive. It is also possible to build walls at any time to protect yourself or reach inaccessible places using materials collected along the way.

The testers' opinion

Fortnite is fairly easy to learn and combines building with defending, which helps develop certain cognitive skills. Its success is also based on its cartoon-like design: there is no visible blood when the player kills enemies.

The main «Battle Royale» mode is very engaging, even addictive: in each game, players hope to be the last one standing. As soon as they die, they can start a new game in the hope of climbing higher in the rankings.

Finally, Fortnite is free, but it does feature microtransactions, and it is important to be vigilant as purchasing is strongly encouraged.

In brief

Points to watch out for

In-app purchases : Although Fortnite is a free-to-download game, it features an in-game shop where players can purchase cosmetic items for their characters with real money.

Online interactions It is possible to interact with other players during games using voice chat.

Violence : Although Fortnite is based on eliminating opponents with firearms, its universe remains cartoonish and shows no traces of blood.

Benefits for the player

Strategy To win the game and finish in first place, players must adopt the right behaviours to try to survive as long as possible.

Reflexes The fast-paced nature of the game, combining building and shooting, forces players to react quickly and develop the ability to adapt to various situations in a very short space of time.

Mutual aid : As a team, the game takes on a whole new dimension and requires players to coordinate and exercise caution when facing opposing squads.

Perseverance : Although it is rare to win during one's first few games, with perseverance, players develop reflexes and automatic responses that bring them closer and closer to the final goal.
