Towards mandatory and simple parental controls on smartphones and tablets

Pursuant to the Studer Act* adopted in March 2022, a decree should now make it mandatory to install a default new parental control system on all phones and tablets. The law stipulates that «terminal equipment intended for use with online public communication services providing access to services and content that may be harmful to the physical, mental or moral development of minors shall be equipped with a easily accessible and understandable device enabling their users to restrict or control such persons» access to these services and content.

Invited by the Secretary of State for Children, Charlotte Caubel, to participate in a meeting to launch a public consultation on this subject, the e-Enfance Association reiterated in various media outlets the need to that parents no longer feel apprehensive about addressing this topic and discussing it with their children.

« The idea is that it should be easy, quick and understandable, and that everyone can use it, unlike what already existed. » explains Justine Atlan, director of the Association in Le Parisien/Today in France.

And for the president of the Association, Béatrice Copper-Royer, psychologist and specialist in childhood and adolescence: « You have to be loyal to them (editor's note: children). This This tool can be complementary to good digital education.. Install this tool with your child, but do not show them your password. Tell them that it is not not to police him but to protect him »she advises.

« What remains important is dialogue. Today, too many parents feel that they have nothing to teach their children.. But cJust because they are good with a mouse does not mean they know everything. They are children! »she continues.
