Meta is implementing new parental control features on Instagram.
Already offered to United States since March, These new tools enable parents to invite their teenagers to join them., account supervision, that it is free to accept or refuse. The teenager may also request this from their parents themselves if they feel the need to do so.
If this supervision is accepted, parents may then:
- Set daily limits on time how much time their child can spend on Instagram (from 15 minutes to 2 hours), but also set up breaks during which they will not have access to the platform (via any of their devices, phones, computers or tablets)
- See whom their child follows and who is subscribed to their account
- Receive detailed information about reports possibly carried out by their children (hateful, pornographic, racist content, etc.)
However, parental controls do not allow you to view liked or commented content, nor to read teenagers' private messages.
Alongside these new tools, Meta has also announced the addition of additional resources proposed in its Family Centre (expert advice and resources on the digital world) and the deployment of’parental supervision tools for virtual reality.
