The parent company of Facebook and Instagram has just announced that, starting on 26 June, it will use its users’ data to train its AI programmes.’AI. In concrete terms, the group explains that «information shared by internet users about Meta products and services» will be used, i.e. texts, photos, comments and stories, but not the content of private messages.
An announcement that raises questions, especially since the group does not specify precisely for what purposes this data will be used and that he will also be able to harvest information that does not concern users of its services, such as the presence in a photograph, for example.
Furthermore, Meta does not plan to seek consent from its users, simply giving them the option to opt out by filling out an online form. “provided, however, that justification deemed acceptable by the American company is provided”. A provision contrary to the rules of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
