According to figures from the StopFisha association, 73% of women have already been victims of gender-based or sexual violence and women are twenty-seven times more likely to be cyberbullied than men, without necessarily fitting a particular «typical profile».
Interviewed by The World On the subject of gender-based and sexual violence online, Justine Atlan reminds us:
« Historically, this phenomenon has existed for a very long time. : the village whore or the school whore. The aim is to damage one's reputation, implying that an emancipated woman would be a woman poorly regarded by those around her.»
Gender-based and sexual violence online intensified significantly around a year before the first lockdown. This violence is on the rise and can take many forms, the most common being nude photos and intimate videos posted on social media, faces superimposed on porn actresses' bodies, and threats of rape or death.
Still in The World Justine Atlan specifies that « Modernity has increased the potential for harm through virality. «Having all these tools at your fingertips in your pocket is too appealing to the impulsive nature of teenagers. It's dangerous at this age when the brain is still developing and hormones are raging.»
