In a report on the widespread use of social media by teenagers, Justine Atlan, Chief Executive Officer of the Association e-Childhood / 3018, recalls the direct responsibility of platforms.
She emphasises that these services have themselves prohibited access to children under the age of 13, thereby acknowledging that they expose the youngest to content and behaviour that they are unable to manage.
According to her, social media has “created a space that is not suitable for children in development”, and it is now up to the platforms to enforce their own rules in terms of age and safety.
This position echoes the request made by the’Arcom, which calls for the implementation of reliable age verification systems to protect minors.
