France Info – Justine Atlan: Harassment – are social networks doing enough?

The suicide of Lindsay, a 13-year-old girl, victim of bullying and from cyberbullying on several social networks dramatically raises once again the question of social media responsibility but also that of the passivity of witnesses.

Justine Atlan, The Association's Chief Executive Officer was invited to France News alongside Charlotte Caubel, Secretary of State for Children.

She explains: «Parents should not educate their children solely as victims of bullying, but also as witnesses or even potential authors. All young people must have the reflex to report problematic content on social media rather than taking screenshots and sharing them. »

On the responsibility of platforms, she adds:

« Today, social networks are considered hosts rather than publishers.. However, as they have complete mastery of their algorithms, they must invest in artificial intelligence capable of quickly identifying cases of harassment.
