Changes to TikTok to comply with the DSA

Disinformation, hate speech, manipulation, counterfeiting... These abuses are increasingly prevalent online. To better protect Europeans, a new digital services regulation (DSA) has been published. It aims to regulate the activities of platforms, particularly those of GAFAM.

The planned obligations are due to come into force in February 2024. However, the very major platforms, as Tik Tok will be affected earlier, as early as 25 August 2023.

The social network Tik Tok has recently published a cpress release to announce certain changes in order to comply with this new European regulation.

Here is what you need to remember:

  • Users aged 13 to 17 will no longer see personalised advertisements based on their activities on TikTok or elsewhere.

  • A new option for reporting illegal content will be added: users will be able to report content by indicating the reason: hate speech, harassment, financial crime, etc. This option will also apply to advertisements that appear in the feed. ⚠️

  • The platform also promises greater transparency in its moderation practices, including more information about account bans and content removals initiated by the application.
