73% women have already faced […] online violence or been victims of it.» This is one of the conclusions of the UN working group that published its report several days ago, entitled «Combating online violence against women and girls – a call for global awareness.».
This insightful study reveals that young women aged 18 to 24 are the main victims of cyber violence and cyberbullying. Thus, 18% of female residents of the European Union (i.e. 9 million women) have already experienced a serious form of violence online.
At a time when mobile Internet is developing rapidly, e-Enfance welcomes the UN's efforts to address this issue and deplores the fact that cyber violence is underreported and poorly reported: in France and elsewhere in the world, measures to combat it remain (too) timid.
