Snapchat mobilises in response to lockdown and coronavirus

1 / Avoid misinformation

To combat fake news in a fun way, Snapchat has launched a quiz. This augmented reality game allows users and their friends to take part in a “true or false” quiz on information related to Covid-19. The aim is to to combat rumours and other misinformation by disseminating accurate informationand to recall thehas necessitated protective measures to protect yourself and others.

2/ Promoting social distancing

Thanks to augmented reality, Snapchat has created two filters to promote social distancing. The first is able to guide you in your movements to avoid getting too close to others. The second allows Snapchat users to remind themselves lprotective measures that help combat the spread of the virus. These new filters, developed in collaboration with theWorld Health Organisation (WHO), refer to the WHO website, which provides a list of additional advice.

3/ Follow lockdown guidelines

Finally, To entertain its users who are confined to their homes, Snapchat offers a lens (an augmented reality filter) that allows users to show that they are indeed at home. The aim is to encourage users to comply with lockdown guidelines.

4/ Continue efforts to tackle COVID-19

Snapchat, through a partnership with the World Health Organisation, offers direct access from the mobile application to a feature for making donations to the WHO. This feature also provides access to WHO publications in order to continue efforts to tackle COVID-19.
