On 16 January, the President Emmanuel Macron announced the creation of a committee of experts with the aim of’assess the impact of young people's exposure to screens. After more than three months of work, the ten experts presented their report on 30 April. Here are the main findings: recommendations :
⮕ No screens before the age of 3
⮕ No mobile phones before the age of 11
⮕ Between the ages of 11 and 13, a mobile phone without internet access
⮕ From age 13 onwards, a smartphone with internet access
⮕ From the age of 15, access to «ethical» social networks»
The e-Enfance / 3018 Association welcomes this awareness and the adoption of some of its recommendations based on age verification and related to the ban on smartphones before the age of 15, in compliance with the GDPR for access to social networks, and the correction of their algorithms. All of this is in line with the 3-6-9-12 by Serge Tisseron, widely used as a benchmark by professionals.
Interviewed on BFMTV, Samuel Comblez, Deputy Director of 3018 note: « Ban screens before the age of three is relatively simple to implement, as it is often adults who provide access to it. But during the’adolescence, the digital uses are very part of everyday life. It is therefore necessary to demonstrate pedagogy, to help children understand the importance of vary activities as much as possible and do something other than be on screens. »
He adds: « LParents themselves are too often connected. […] They don't want to do the wrong thing by giving screens, but are unaware of the consequences. This may prevent children from develop correctly, both in terms of language and social relations. »
