Rohan Rane trial: an unprecedented conviction for online abuse of minors

On 10 October 2026, the Paris Assize Court sentenced Rohan Rane, founder of the CVLT community, linked to the cybercriminal group «The Com», to 20 years’ imprisonment for extremely serious offences committed against underage girls. This is a landmark decision in the recognition and prosecution of violence committed in the digital environment.

This first trial in France linked to the «The Com» network has shed light on the methods used by criminal groups that target underage girls on social media, online gaming platforms and messaging apps. Through manipulation, control and blackmail, the victims are forced to endure increasingly extreme forms of violence.

Since January 2026, the e-Enfance / 3018 Association has received around twenty reports relating to this movement, concerning girls aged between 14 and 16.

First application to join the proceedings as a civil party by the e-Enfance / 3018 Association

For the first time, the e-Enfance / 3018 Association has joined the proceedings as a civil party, in order to help raise awareness of digital violence and the long-term harm it causes.

Through the closing arguments of its lawyer, Maître Josée Israël, the Association brought before the court, in particular, the issue of the «digital harm», in order to better characterise the specific suffering endured by victims when violence persists in the digital environment.

This conviction marks an important step in the fight against impunity for perpetrators of online violence and in recognising the impact of such violence on minors.

«This conviction serves as a reminder that actions committed online do not go unpunished.»
Justine Atlan, Chief Executive of the e-Enfance Association / 3018.
