To help parents manage and control their children's experience on TikTok, the platform has introduced «Family Link» mode.
What does TikTok's Family Link mode allow you to do?
- Manage privacy settings: choose who can interact with your child's videos and comment on their posts.
- Managing screen time: setting daily usage limits
- Filter content: restrict access to videos that may be inappropriate or sensitive depending on the child's age.
- Manage account discovery: restrict their children's ability to discover new accounts, but also to be discovered by other users.
- Manage messages: define who can send private messages to their children or disable this feature entirely
However, if a situation of cyberbullying or digital violence is detected on the platform, please note that since November 2023, TikTok has integrated a direct redirect to 3018, which allows users to quickly connect with a listener.
How do I activate TikTok's Family Link mode?
This mode allows you to link a parent account to a child's account. To activate it:
- On the TikTok app, go to your profile.
- Click on the menu at the top right
- Go to settings and «privacy«.«
- Press «family connection»
- Indicate whether you are a «parent» or «child».»
- Once you have selected «parent», a QR code will appear. Scan it.
- The young person will need to follow the same steps on their account, click «teenager» instead of «parent» and scan the QR code.
