Set up parental controls on the console

On the Nintendo Switch, Parental controls work per console: if you activate them, they will apply to all users of that console. They can be temporarily disabled when logging in by entering a PIN code that you set during configuration.

To set up parental controls on your Nintendo Switch, simply follow these steps:

  1. From the menu HOME, display the settings: “Console settings > Parental controls > Parental control settings” 
  2. Select “Use this console” 
  3. Then select “Level of restriction”, then you can configure your parental controls. 
  4. Save your settings and finish by setting your PIN code.

 

The settings available on the Nintendo Switch parental controls are as follows:

  • The restricted software : set the age classifications that your child will be able to access 
  • The age classification system which is applied in your region (Europe uses the system PEGI
  • The’authorisation to publish screenshots or videos on social media from the console
  • The’authorisation to communicate with other players from the console 
  • The’authorisation to use VR : this is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.

Setting up parental controls on the eShop

To use parental controls on the Nintendo Switch eShop, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Nintendo account on a web browser, or create an account if you do not already have one.
  2. Display settings “Family group” 
  3. Designate your child's account as “associated account”. You will need to create an account for them if they do not already have one. 
  4. Set up your parental controls 
  5. Save your settings.

 

The settings available on the eShop parental controls are as follows:

  • The’purchase authorisation : disable all transaction options on the eShop from the relevant Nintendo account
  • The age-based restriction : hide content that is unsuitable for your child's age on the eShop.
