The social network Instagram has announced that it will extend one of its security tools to better protect its young users, in particular harassment.
Additional restrictions
In practical terms, the new option allows you to restrict interactions to «everyone except close friends». By activating this feature, only private messages, tags, and mentions of close friends will be visible. Other accounts may still attempt to interact, but the user will not see it.
⮕ To activate it, simply go to settings, then the section «Ways to interact with you» and «Limited interactions». The user will then be able to set the restrictions and their duration.
The functionality «Restrict» which allows you to limit interactions from specific accounts without blocking them completely, has also been improved. Now, if you enable this option for an account, that account will not be able to no more tagging or mentioning. Furthermore, all Comments from this account will be hidden.
These announcements come at a time when Meta is subject to a inquiry of the European Commission to determine whether the group has violated the provisions concerning protection of minors of the European Digital Services Regulation (DSA).
