Instagram announced on Wednesday the global rollout of a new feature allowing its users to manage and restrict any unwanted interaction without alerting the person concerned.
Called «Restrict», this feature can be activated either by swiping left on a comment, going to «Settings > Security» or by going directly to the profile of the user you wish to restrict. Once the new feature is activated, comments written by the restricted person will only be visible to them. However, the user will still be able to view restricted comments by clicking on «View comments», or approve a restricted comment so that all members of their community can see it, delete it, or ignore it.
However, Instagram states that «users who use this feature will not receive notifications when the restricted person posts a comment.» Users do have the option to cancel this restriction, in which case messages will automatically be moved to the direct message inbox.
