Ice and Salt Challenge: a new danger on social media

The Ice and Salt Challenge is enjoying alarming success on social media in the United States and Great Britain and is now arriving in France, accompanied by a barrage of posts on social media.

While some challenges launched on the web are fun (the mannequin challenge, for example), this one is proving to be very dangerous.

What is the Ice and Salt Challenge?

Teenagers are filming themselves on social media applying salt and then ice to their skin. The reaction of the two elements on the skin can be extremely dangerous as it causes second-degree burns.
The aim of the challenge is to be as resistant to pain as possible, but many young people go too far and end up in hospital with serious injuries.

How can you dissuade your child from practising it?

It is important to raise your children's awareness as soon as possible by discussing this challenge with them. It is essential to make children understand that putting themselves in danger for the sole purpose of creating a buzz is neither useful nor intelligent, and to inform them of the risks they face.
