Facebook France supports projects and initiatives against harassment and hate and for critical thinking by offering the first Fund for Online Civility. In 2019, €1 million will be dedicated to supporting several projects by French organisations (associations, start-ups, etc.).
Combat all forms of hatred, harassment, and intimidation.
40% of French pupils admit to having suffered online harassment. The need to support those who contribute to making the Internet a safer place is undeniable.
“We are convinced that the fight against harassment will be won if we join forces with those working in the field and experts on this issue. We are delighted that the initiative has brought together such a wide range of experts, and hope that together we can take effective action on these social issues,” said Julie de Bailliencourt, Head of Safety Policy at Facebook.
The aim of this civic fund is to finance innovative projects that promote responsible online behaviour in the following areas:
– Combating hate speech
– Combating harassment
– The development of critical thinking
Each year, this funding will be divided by the committee of experts between two categories of grants: the Grand Prize, with a grant of up to €200,000, and Projects, between 10 and 12 each year, with a grant of up to €80,000 each. The winning projects will be announced on 6 February, on Safer Internet Day. Project leaders have until 15 December to apply and will then be monitored and supported in achieving their objectives throughout the year.
