Paris, 4 August 2020 – New risks have emerged with the rise of social media: online abuse, sharing photos or videos without consent, harassment... Today, 62% of children aged 12 have at least one social media account, while parents and grandparents do not always have the tools to understand and control how their children use these platforms.
This is why younger people are increasingly confronted with cases of cyber violence, from which they need to be protected. Carrefour Assurance, a trusted partner for families in their everyday lives, wanted to expand its range of services to help parents, grandparents and children protect themselves against these risks by entering into a two-year partnership with e-Enfance, a leading organisation in this field. Carrefour Insurance and e-Enfance are now working hand in hand to support families by providing advice and day-to-day support.
A committed, long-term partnership
Carrefour Insurance has been committed for several years to protecting families against all everyday risks. With the evolution of digital usage and the prominent place that social networks occupy in the lives of young people both at home and at school, Carrefour Insurance has decided to enter into a long-term partnership with the Association e-Enfance, a recognised public interest organisation. Approved by the Ministry of Education, the association has been fighting since 2005 against cyber violence and works in schools with pupils, their parents and education professionals to raise awareness of good digital practices (video games, screen time management, personal data, fake news, pornography, etc.). The aim of this partnership is to support all customers throughout the year by providing access to a dedicated helpline and regular educational content. Carrefour Assurance and e-Enfance are working together to raise awareness among all members of the family by rolling out several initiatives throughout the year:
- Lectures for parents, the first of which will be held at the start of the new school year in September.
- Regular publication of thematic and educational guides tailored to individual needs
- The completion of a national study tracing new uses and inherent risks to raise awareness among families on the occasion of the Day Against Bullying, 5 November, which this year, for the first time, becomes a World Day under the auspices of UNESCO.
Following an initial partnership with PEEP, a parents' association, Carrefour Assurance is now providing significant support to the e-Enfance Association to make insurance more useful for families. Beyond providing protection in the event of a claim, Carrefour Assurance aims to prevent, protect and support its customers on a daily basis and ensure that their needs are met. In addition to traditional car and home insurance, Carrefour Assurance offers simple and comprehensive everyday insurance policies to protect families in their homes and during their leisure activities, the schooling of children and teenagers in France and abroad, their pets and all household appliances (mobile phones, tablets, games consoles and electrical appliances, etc.).
Practical support for the whole family
The 3018 platform, a free and confidential national helpline, run by the e-Enfance Association, offers a practical and easily accessible solution. e-Enfance experts are available to answer questions about the proper use of the Internet, share effective methods for detecting potential cyberbullying risks, and provide support to both parents and children. In emergencies, Net Ecoute has an alert system in place to report the most problematic content to platforms and request its removal. These actions are made possible by Net Ecoute's direct collaboration with social networks, the National Police's «Pharos» platform, the National Gendarmerie's «Digital Brigade» platform, and 119-Enfance en Danger (119-Children in Danger). Regardless of the insurance policy taken out, all Carrefour Assurance customers can benefit from this service, Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
