LCP – Digital technology opens doors to child sexual abuse

The digital revolution has transformed our daily lives, but it has also opened up major loopholes in which child sexual abuse thrives.

In 2024, 164,500 pieces of child sexual abuse material were reported to OFMIN., a figure that is constantly rising, illustrating the scale of the phenomenon.

Invited onto the LCP set, Véronique Béchu, Director of the Observatory on Digital Violence Against Minors, reminded us how much the situation is alarming and requires swift and coordinated action.

The 3018, the national helpline for victims of digital violence, has also observed a significant increase in requests related to child sexual abuse offences

Children are getting online at an increasingly young age., Paedophiles are where the children are., and the internet provides them with easy access to their potential victims. Predators infiltrate networks, gaming spaces, and social platforms frequented by young people, fuelling a worrying increase in cases of online child sexual abuse.

Faced with this reality, The e-Enfance / 3018 Association takes action every day, to protect minors, to support victims and their parents, to alert and raise awareness among the general public about the risks to which children are exposed online.

And to reiterate the importance of collective vigilance and the need to strengthen the protection of minors in a digital environment where threats are constantly evolving.
