«Celebrities read mean tweets» is a cult segment on Jimmy Kimmel's American TV show. The presenter regularly invites celebrities to take part in a session where they read out mean tweets about themselves. In order to raise public awareness of the dangers of cyberbullying, the child protection NGO Canadian Safe School Network decided to parody this concept.
We see children reading hateful tweets, smiling at first, but gradually the tweets become more and more violent. «Nobody loves you. Do everyone a favour. Kill yourself,» reads a teenage girl, visibly moved, before leaving the scene.
Through this video, the association aims to show that cyberbullying is no joke. A crowdfunding campaign is open until 1 April on the IndieGogo website to finance the distribution of this video.
