The programme Milles et une vie, presented by Frédéric Lopez, focused on bullying at school.
Last Monday, two young women appeared on the programme to talk about the bullying they experienced at school during their secondary education. They were also victims of cyberbullying, One of them stated:
«I discovered that I had a profile on a pornographic website without knowing it... It had all my photos, my address, my height, my measurements...».
These deeply moving testimonies naturally struck a chord with us at the’e-Childhood Association and we would like to reiterate, once again, not only the importance of awareness young people, but also parents and education professionals, about the risks of the Internet.
RISING NUMBERS: LET'S CONTINUE TO RAISE AWARENESS
In January 2017, another programme on France 3 Bretagne (to read or view here) once again highlighted the rising figures for bullying at school and cyberbullying:
6% increase per year in the number of cases of bullying at school. 6% pupils in France, including 22% stating that they are regularly harassed online.
HOW TO ACT OR REACT:
The first step in combating cyberbullying and bullying at school is to BREAKING THE SILENCE and talk to your loved ones or support persons to get help.
Whether you are being bullied yourself, are the parent of a child in distress, have witnessed cyberbullying, are an education professional unsure of how to respond, or are the parent of a child who is a bully, please contact our helpline on 3018, via chat on the website or via Facebook Messenger.
As a reminder, when faced with these situations, it is important to:
- Keep evidence (take screenshots with your computer or phone)
- Talk to someone you trust
- Report online to stop the spread of inappropriate content (social networks offer the option to anonymously report abusive content or users).
- File a complaint if necessary (the new law of 4 August 2014 recognises psychological harassment as a criminal offence, with its manifestation via digital tools being an aggravating factor).
A DAILY STRUGGLE:
The e-Enfance Association witnesses cyberbullying situations on a daily basis and continues to raise awareness among pupils about the risks of the internet, particularly through its interventions in schools. We also offer training courses for parents and professionals to help them understand these issues too.
