Social media mobilised for the launch campaign of 3018, the new national helpline number for digital violence

The e-Enfance Association, with the support of social media, is launching the 3018 campaign, the new national helpline for young victims of digital violence and support for digital parenting. Supported by the Government, the launch of the national number 3018 is part of the Covid-19 Emergency Plan for Children.

The campaign is supported by Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, and Twitter, which are rallying around this campaign to promote 3018 to their young users and parents.

Their approach is an extension of the operational partnership established between each of these platforms and 3018 to prioritise the handling of reports involving minors.

This campaign, distributed free of charge on these social networks from 1 June onwards, aims to instil the 3018 reflex in the event of a problem with digital usage, primarily for children and teenagers, of course, but also for their parents and professionals.

Two areas of focus were selected for this campaign:

  • to parents, a series of visuals reflects the questions that they land in education digital their children (cyberbullying, exposure to pornography, video games and screen time);
  • to young people, the campaign chose to highlight situations of digital violence illustrated with their preferred language of emojis (cyberbullying, webcam blackmail, revenge porn, online hate).

Trusted third party, «trusted flagger» for social networks (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok, Roblox, Discord, Yubo), 3018 acts immediately at the request of young victims or their parents to report illegal content and have it removed within hours. Its capacity for intervention unique in France ensures accelerated processing of reports via social media, which is more necessary than ever given the increased tensions caused by successive lockdowns.

In addition to its reporting role, 3018 assists victims with the necessary procedures with the relevant authorities and directs them to specialist services. Agreement with the Pharos platform (internet-reporting.gouv.fr), the Digital Brigade of the National Gendarmerie (gendarmerie.interieur.gov.fr) and 119-Children in danger, 3018 is at the heart of the child protection system.

The 3018 helpline is free, anonymous and confidential, and can be accessed by telephone 6 days a week from 9am to 8pm, at 3018.co.uk via Chat, Messenger and WhatsApp. The 3018 team, made up of psychologists, lawyers and digital tool specialists, is trained in protecting minors on the internet. It is able to take care of young victims and support parents in their educational role on all subjects related to their children's digital lives: cyberbullying, revenge porn, webcam blackmail, overexposure to screens, video games, exposure to violent and pornographic content, parental control, social media account settings, account hacking and identity theft.

« 3018 is the digital counterpart to 119 (the number for children in danger). Its purpose is to help, support and accompany all young victims of cyber violence.. In order for young people to fully benefit from the opportunities offered by digital technology, we must protect them from all forms of violence that threaten them, including online violence. Cyber violence is only «cyber» in name. It has very real consequences that extend beyond the digital sphere. »declares Adrien Taquet, Secretary of State for Children and Families.

For Justine Atlan, Chief Executive Officer of the e-Enfance Association : « This communication campaign is essential for raising awareness of 3018 among as many people as possible.. A one-stop shop for all questions related to young people's digital usage, 3018 protects children and teenagers in their digital lives, alongside our partners, 119-Enfance en Danger (Child Protection Hotline) and 3020-Non au Harcèlement scolaire (No to School Bullying Hotline). Its purpose is to help, support and accompany young victims of digital violence and their parents in their educational role. I would like to thank all the partners who support this essential campaign to raise awareness of the number and encourage people to adopt the 3018 reflex. »
