Filming, publishing, and sharing violent videos are reprehensible acts. Happyslapping is the practice of using a mobile phone to film a scene of violence suffered by a person with the aim of distributing the video on the internet and social media.
If you witness an assault being filmed or see images of an assault, above all, do not get involved. Try to prevent the assault by alerting other people (adults, law enforcement officers, school staff, etc.). In an emergency, call 17 or 112 on your mobile phone.
In these filmed scenes, the protagonists are all guilty: those who commit the violence, those who film it, and those who broadcast it. If you come across a video of violence on the internet, remember to use PHAROS: www.internet-signalement.gouv.fr.
Happyslapping is an offence punishable by 5 years' imprisonment and a €75,000 fine. Are you a victim of cyberbullying? Consult our article on Happyslapping.
