Survey

The survey, conducted entirely by Year 12 STMG students at Jeanne d'Arc High School in Colombes (92), supervised by Alexandra Audibert, management teacher, and Eric Andrade, social media expert, highlights the different behaviours of teenagers when it comes to social media.

A survey designed by teenagers and about teenagers. During the survey, 365 students from Year 9 to Year 13 responded to an online questionnaire.

The key figures from the study reveal a mobile and ultra-connected generation.

– 87% of 13-18 year olds have a smartphone

– 78% of Year 8 pupils and 95% of sixth form pupils are registered on social media.

– The most popular social network is Snapchat, with 83% students registered, compared to 80% on Facebook and 60% on Instagram.

The survey also reveals some questionable behaviour:

– 60% pupils registered on their first social network before the age of 13 (minimum age requirement).

– 40% of secondary school pupils do not feel safe on social media

– 16% of 13-18 year olds have witnessed insults or harassment on social media.
