Harassment practices, risk factors for health.

An article entitled « Bullying children can have a long-term effect on their health. » published by la dépêche.fr caught our attention. Children who are perpetrators or victims of bullying are at greater risk of health problems in adulthood. These findings, from a study conducted by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania, sought to demonstrate that bullying can have consequences for individuals' physical health as well as their mental health.

Samuel Comblez, Training Manager at e-Enfance and psychologist, shares his insights on the subject.

«Harassment, which may seem trivial to the perpetrator, has a devastating effect on the physical and mental health of victims.»

Hostility is very harmful in the long term:

Indeed, any individual can tolerate a certain amount of hostility, unless it is permanent or repetitive or unless the person is placed in a position where it is impossible for them to respond or justify themselves. The harassment causes distress for the person experiencing it. This pain increases with time, much like a wound that gets worse if left untreated.

Respond and seek help:

From the outset of the harassment, it is important to react, not to remain alone and to call on people who can stop the pain that is spreading through the victim. Talking provides relief and allows the whole body to relax. The Net-Ecoute line allows you to be supported, to share your pain, to regain the ability to think and take a step back from a situation that is causing you distress.

Anonymous and sympathetic listening:

By calling 3018, A victim of harassment benefits from a sympathetic and non-judgmental ear, a moment of calm, and the opportunity to regain the energy to help protect themselves. If the pain cannot be relieved through talking, the body takes over to express the tensions that the victim is experiencing. The body speaks, and health deteriorates when words can no longer express what is going on. Listening on the telephone, at a distance, without being seen, is a good way to calm down. On the Net-Ecoute helpline, many victims of harassment say that their call is the first step towards getting out of a situation in which they feel trapped and unheard.
