The social network is launching a new version of its instant messaging app for younger users: Messenger Kids. This new app for children and families is initially available in the United States and, according to the company, is the result of «an advanced research process that ensures its safe use».
An existing use that requires more control:
In the United States, 9 out of 10 children aged 6 to 12 have access to a tablet or smartphone, and 2 out of 3 have their own device. A study shows that 75% of parents say they are concerned about their children's online safety and want more control. That is why Facebook is launching this messaging app designed for children.
Mandatory parental control:
Produced in collaboration with experts, it is based on:
- Parental control: children access their Facebook Messenger application under the supervision of their parents, who must monitor and approve the registration process and their child's choice of contacts. The application is separate from Facebook and its other applications.
- Privacy: Facebook reiterates that no account will be created for the child and no data will be used for advertising, which is absent from Messenger Kids.
- Designed with children in mind: Messenger Kids is designed for children under 13, with specific GIFs, stickers, masks, frames, and more. It's sure to rival Snapchat!
Messenger Kids is currently only Available in the United States on the Apple Store.
