Facebook is recruiting 3,000 additional moderators

The social network has announced the hiring of 3,000 additional staff to filter violent images and videos. They will join the existing team of 4,500 moderators.

Taking control further

Following recent incidents on Facebook Live (murder and suicide videos broadcast live in the US), Mark Zuckerberg announced this new wave of recruitment in order to better control reports, particularly on his live video service.

A welcome realisation

At e-Enfance/Net Ecoute, we are often confronted with the excesses of live streaming (see our article from January 2017 – LIVE ON SOCIAL MEDIA: THE DOWNSIDES OF LIVE BROADCASTING). Well aware that reports can sometimes be dealt with «too» late, we would like to commend Facebook for its awareness of this issue and its efforts to invest in moderation.

Let us work together to combat online harassment and violence!
