Where necessary, it analyses the account or content in question, assesses its legal status and lists the constituent elements. It compiles a report file and sends it directly to the moderation service of the social network concerned via a priority channel. Its unique capacity for intervention in France ensures accelerated processing of reports via social media., which is more necessary than ever in light of the increased tensions caused by successive lockdowns.

At the heart of the child protection system

In addition to its reporting function, 3018 assists victims with the necessary procedures with the relevant authorities and directs them to specialist services. It has an agreement with the Pharos platform (internet-reporting.gouv.fr), the Digital Brigade of the National Gendarmerie (gendarmerie.interieur.gov.fr) and 119-Children in danger, 3018 is at the heart of the child protection system.. As a partner to institutional digital players and qualified independent authorities, including the CSA, CNIL, Hadopi, the Defender of Rights and the ANJ, 3018 is in direct contact with all stakeholders.

«Cyber violence, of which cyberbullying is a major component, is a form of violence that young people suffer today, as it occurs in a space where children and adolescents are often left to their own devices. 3018 is the digital counterpart of 119 (the number for children in danger). Its purpose is to help, support and accompany all young victims of cyber violence. In order for young people to fully benefit from the opportunities offered by digital technology, we must protect them from all forms of violence that threaten them, including online violence. Cyber violence is only «cyber» in name. It has very real consequences that extend beyond the digital sphere.» declares Adrien Taquet, Secretary of State for Children and Families.

According to Justine Atlan, Managing Director of the e-Enfance Association: « The new short number 3018 makes our work more visible and effective for young users and their families. Since 2009, we have been working daily to protect minors on the Internet with the support of the European Commission, the Ministry of National Education and the DILCRAH. Today, with the support of the State Secretariat for Children and Families, the 3018 becomes the one-stop shop for protecting young people in their digital lives, from childhood, supervised by their parents, to adolescence, when they are more independent in their use.»
