13 Reasons Why: Selena Gomez's hit series about bullying at school.

The entire e-Enfance team spent a few hours, like many internet users, watching the latest Netflix series produced by Selena Gomez. No spoilers here, but we wanted to invite you to watch the first season of the series «13 Reasons Why».

What is the series about?

The hit series tells the story of Hannah Beker, a young American teenager who seems friendly but who committed suicide a week earlier. She leaves behind a series of 13 audio cassettes for her classmates to listen to her story. For her, everyone played a part in her decision.

«Make yourself comfortable, because I'm going to tell you the story of my life. Or rather, why my life came to a halt.», she announces. «And if you're listening to this, you're one of the reasons why.»

You can watch the trailer below:

Why are we telling you this?

Because the intention behind the production of the series is clear: « If the show can help teenagers who identify with Hannah or who identify with how she feels to feel less alone, that would be an incredible thing,» explains Katherine Langford in this article from TéléObs.

Adapted from Jay Asher's novel (Thirteen Reasons Why in English), 13 Reasons Why was directed by Tom McCarthy (Spotlight) and produced by singer Selena Gomez, who announced a few years ago that she had been bullied at primary and secondary school.

We couldn't pass up this series. It deals with issues that we encounter every day in our work and on our helpline (Net Ecoute 3018): the consequences of rumours, ostracism, bullying at school, sexual assault, etc. e-Enfance encourages you to watch it, either alone or with your family, and to talk about it with those around you. Parents, teenagers, education professionals: this series is for everyone.
