More lifelike than ever, AI-generated influencers are taking over our news feeds!
Photos at the beach, at the gym or selfies in the mirror: these content creators are just like the ones we are used to, except that they do not exist.
What are the risks of following these accounts?
These avatars are genuine influencers who form partnerships with major industries to promote their products. So be careful, because there is often a commercial objective behind these content creators!
These AI influencers also raise ethical concerns with the potential dissemination of biased, malicious, or toxic information that could influence public opinion in an undesirable or manipulative way.
Finally, a major challenge lies in authenticity. AI influencers are not real human beings. As such, they often have a “perfect” appearance and lifestyle. This is a dangerous new standard that reinforces unrealistic norms and can lead to a complicated relationship with our image or self-esteem.
Here are some tips for recognising a virtual influencer:
- We often find the letters IA or AI in the name or bio of the profile; ;
- The profiles are unrealistic and the content is too perfect; ;
- Interaction is limited: photos can be posted, but not videos, for example. ;
- Absence of personal content: mainly products or brands are observed; ;
- Comments can also be a good indicator.
