In a recent video posted on his X account, Rishi Sunak, the British Prime Minister, calls on all primary and secondary schools in the country to ban mobile phones. He explains that screens are a source of distraction in the classroom and can lead to bullying.
What is the situation in French institutions?
In France, the use of mobile phones in primary and secondary schools has already been banned since the law of 3 August 2018! For sixth form colleges, use is regulated by each institution. This law aims to create an environment conducive to learning and to ensure the well-being of students.
It also helps preserve children's real social lives, because yes, screens can sometimes distance us from our immediate environment. However, school is an ideal place to interact in person, share ideas, and build relationships outside the virtual world... so make the most of it!
