Online harassment on XBOX: up to one year's suspension

Share

XBOX is strengthening sanctions for online gamers: up to a year's suspension for inappropriate behaviour or online harassment.

This new feature was recently announced by the Xbox Vice President of Player Services.

So, what exactly is changing?

Moderation will follow a system of “strikes”. For example, if you insult a player online, you will receive one strike. For online harassment, you will receive two strikes, and for hate speech, you will receive three strikes.

The banishment periods are also specified: one strike will be penalised with a one-day ban from online play and this could go up to a one-year ban if a player accumulates eight strikes over a six-month period. It will then take him six months to regain a «licence to play» with no previous record.

Each player will have a comprehensive overview of the penalty, in order to understand what he is accused of to become more aware of it and adjust one's behaviour. It should be noted that this does not rule out the possibility of a permanent suspension of an account who would engage in illegal behaviour on the platform.
